Fish of the Month

Ladyfish
| Name | Ladyfish |
| AKA's | Ten-pounder, Skipjack. Chiro, Banane |
| Description | The Ladyfish is a slender, silvery fish with a deep forked tail and a large, scoop-shaped lower jaw. It is in the Tarpon family. Ounce for ounce, the Ladyfish is more fun to catch and angle due to their fighting and leaping from the water. |
| Where Found | The Ladyfish is found in all Gulf of Mexico coasts usually in the flats and caught by anglers most likely fishing for something other than a Ladyfish--perhaps trout. |
| Size | It is usually 1 to 2 pounds and rarely found to reach 7 to 8 pounds. |
| Food Value | It is very soft and boney, so unless that doesn't bother you it is more fun to catch than to eat. For comparison in bones and texture it is similar in to fresh water Herring. |
| Suggested Tackle & Bait | light casting tackle on small live fish or live shrimp |
| Suggested Fishing Techniques | Casting, drifting, and still fishing |
