The Double Crested Cormorant
Description 32-33 inches in length, dark  body, long neck, crest seldom evident, straight bill with hooked tip, orange throat pouch and a long tail.
Located They are commonly seen on pilings, channel markers, etc. with their wings spread as in the picture to the left.
In Florida Year round
Diet Fish, can be seen frequently diving for fish to eat.
Behaviors Frequently seen drying out its wings (as in the photo) because the Cormorant's wings are not waterproof.
Personal Experience Last year we found what we thought was a Cormorant  on the Anclote Sand Bar.  It had fishing line wrapped around its wings and was close to death.  As it turned out it was really an American Bittern and when wet it looked a lot like the Cormorant.  We were able to catch the American Bittern and cut the fishing line off it and set it free.  It flew away which was great to see.
